PAD
The model 561 (PAD) is a CWL monitor intended for operation as a Personal Alpha Dosimeter. The PAD features 4 alpha energy counting windows. These windows are internally set to count the activity on the filter from RaA (6 MeV), RaC' (7.7 MeV), ThC '(8.8 MeV), and gross count (>2 Mev).
This instrument is in use in many uranium mines worldwide. It is intended to record the amount of alpha radiation (radon progeny) to which an individual has been exposed during a work shift.
Description of the system:
- The PAD as used in uranium mines is mounted on top of the miners cap lamp battery.
- Instrument weight: 0.41 Kg (14.5 oz).
- Ambient air is pumped (at 125 cc/minute) through a 0.8 micron filter membrane. The flow rate is servo controlled.
- Detector: Silicon Diffused Junction, 400 square millimeters area.
- Internal Electronics:
Pulse amplifier
Real time clock and calendar
Non volatile data memory
Microprocessor with unique numeric identity
- Data collection: 10 minute intervals for up to several days, retrieved via RS- 232 interface.
- Power: 3 - 6 VDC 100mA, from cap lamp battery.
- Software: PC based DOS program to acquire, process and report WLH data from each alphaDOSIMETER .
